Staying safe this Adelaide Fringe Festival

The CCL team offer their tips for keeping out of trouble this Adelaide Fringe Festival

With The Adelaide Fringe officially open, our state’s best time of year is upon us!

This is your reminder from the Craig Caldicott Lawyers team to have fun, be safe and drink responsibly to avoid getting caught up in Mad March mischief.

Now don’t get us wrong, there is nothing our solicitors love more than sharing a bottle of wine (or two) between friends on Ebenezer Place before venturing over to The Garden for a night of adventure and laughs.

While it is legal to consume alcohol in a public place such as The Garden of Unearthly Delights, Gluttony or the bustling East End, we remind you that legislation grants wide powers to police to deal with public nuisance offences including disorderly behaviour, fail to cease loiter and urinating in a public place.

Possession of a controlled drug, hindering police, J-walking and property damage are some of the most common criminal offences that we see people charged with throughout Mad March.

Often when it is time to go home taxi lines are long and uber prices surge through the roof and we may opt for an e-scooter.

But did you know that you can be picked up drink or drug driving even when you are riding an e-scooter or a bicycle?

We find that especially during the Fringe season, this realisation comes too little too late to some people!

Riding an e-scooter or bicycle on a road or road related area with a blood alcohol level of above 0.05 or with a controlled drug in your system is a criminal offence (and for those of you on an L or P licence, it is any blood alcohol reading above 0.00).

Meaning if you are picked up on an e-scooter or bike it is likely that you will receive a disqualification on your driver’s licence.
