Meet Emily Cousins, a highly acclaimed Criminal Lawyer with expertise in complex cases and a reputation as one of South Australia’s top legal minds.
Recognised as a rising star in criminal law, Emily’s dedication to justice and her exceptional legal acumen make her a trusted advocate in the field.
Emily graduated with a Bachelor of Laws and Legal Practice (Honours) and Bachelor of Arts from Flinders University in 2014. Emily was admitted to the Supreme Court of South Australia in September 2014 and enrolled on the High Court of Australia Register of Practitioners in October 2017.
Shortly prior to graduating, Emily began clerking with Caldicott Lawyers and was then employed by the firm as a solicitor in 2015. Emily spent her formative years at Caldicott Lawyers mostly working alongside some of South Australia’s greatest legal minds on lengthy and difficult District Court and Supreme Court matters including charges of murder, serious sexual offending, and serious drug offending. This training has given Emily a well-rounded and thorough understanding of the criminal law.
Throughout her time at Caldicott Lawyers (which then became Caldicott + Isaacs Lawyers), Emily appeared in almost all criminal jurisdictions across the state, including travelling to Perth for the High Court of Australia.
Criminal Asset Confiscation has also become a specialty of Emily’s as this often goes together with criminal charges. Emily is known as one of the foremost lawyers in South Australia in this area.
Emily is a hardworking solicitor who prides herself on giving practical advice.
In July 2023, Emily was recognised by The Advertiser as one of the top 10 ‘young guns’ of criminal law – an accolade of which she is extremely proud. Emily also received Rising Star in Criminal Law awards from Doyles Guide in 2016 and 2022.
